How she shines!

golden sun’s fluid glow flows
over your curves, filling your crannies
opulence wrapped in creamy pearlescence
your soft skin shines in the pale pink dawn

now dazzling white in high noon light
towers thrust skywards to pierce
softly yielding cornflower skies
your marble-clad radiance blisters bright

now descending, the great bronze orb
drapes his saffron cloak over your opal shoulders
while beneath the aquamarine firmament
your gleaming countenance smoulders

silver stars prick the velvet twilight
sapphire serenity pervades
everlasting yet ever changing
your beauty pleads devotion

  1. What a lovely tribute, Chris. I like the way the stanzas move us through the day, and that line, ‘drapes his saffron cloak over your opal shoulders’ is beautiful.

  2. So pretty! Both your poem and the photo! I love how you describe the colors. The Taj Mahal amazes me. I’ve never been there but I’ve had students from India in my English classes who have. Oh and I guess Foster and Panda have “kind of” been there! 😊

  3. It is hard to imagine a time when anyone much less a king had more than one wife. And then to have your favorite wife pass so very young…
I like how you used nature to envelope the love emanating from this monument.

    • Thanks, Jules! Polygamy continues though… former SA President, Jacob Zuma has (I think) 6 wives. I asked my husband what he thought of having more than one wife. He paled visibly and assured me one was quite enough. I wasn’t quite sure how to take that. LOL
