emerging at last
from an underground cocoon
pale sun still shrouded
yet emerald shoots glisten
birds are calling to the dawn
post-apocalypse
nature is undefeated
what will man do now?

I guess man needs to relearn existence 🙂

An interesting question in a beautiful rhyme. 🤗👍
Nature always wins the stubborn man! 😉💖

Take a back seat for once and revel in the glory of nature. It’s about time that we learned to appreciate all that we have and lose the greed, jealousy and hatred.
Lovely verse BTW!

I know what I think man should do, but I suspect most wouldn’t agree

Sadly there’s a big gulf between ‘should do’ and ‘will do’.

What will man do? A thought provoking question Chris. Lovely poem my dear friend. Thanks for joining in

Thanks so much, Sadje. I pose the question not knowing the answer, but hoping we can get it right before it’s too late.

I hope so too Chris. We are not headed in the right direction and we do need a wake up call.

This is a very thought-provoking poem. What if we didn’t wait until after the apocalypse to ask this question?

Of course, many people are, but I’m taking the view that perhaps it’s already too late. My pessimistic view was brought on my the novel I’m reading…

I expect you’re right. I probably should have said, what if we hadn’t waited . . .

The world needs to do more, that’s for sure, even if Cape Town (and other southern coastal cities) isn’t about to be engulfed by a tsunami caused by a rift in the Antarctic ice sheet.

That’s scary–and not outside the realm of possibility is my understanding.

An awkward question that hangs deliciously for nature to respond to, does a leopard change it’s spots, will nature let humanity have another chance?

In an ideal world, we’d learn to live with the planet, but alas, that doesn’t work with capitalism.

Although I am a naturally positive person, Chris, my view is that mankind would merely get up and start grabbing for themselves and destroying everything all over again. That is the cycle of human history.

That certainly seems to be the way of things, Robbie.

My favorite line is “birds are calling to the dawn”. It reminds me of the small town where I grew up, because you could really hear the birds doing that. Not quite the same in the “big city”. 🤔
