Spirit of the Shell Man, the sequel to Song of the Sea Goddess will be released next month. Set in the same fictional town, located somewhere on the beautiful west coast of South Africa, our favourite characters return in a new adventure – Albertina and the Aunties, the Professor and little Toti, Abdu and Jannie are all back, ready to face whatever new challenges await them.
It is with the greatest pleasure that I offer you a free Advance Reader Copy from Booksprout: simply click here to download your copy and start reading.
Here’s the blurb:
“A series of strange events accompany the delivery of an unusual wooden box to the bookish Professor who lives on the hill, while down by the sleepy harbour a dusty convoy of huge earth-moving machines roll into town. Soon afterwards, an expensive-looking yacht arrives, skippered by an enigmatic sea captain, accompanied by her weird and troublesome little crew who cause chaos in Albertina’s chicken-run and wreak havoc in the posh new hair salon.
The mysterious mute captain, her nose permanently buried in an old notebook, is clearly seeking something. Meanwhile the Professor’s interest is piqued by an unusually attentive congregation of praying mantises in his back yard. Then, as construction work begins on the unspoiled hillside beyond the town’s looming headland, the disturbance of long-buried bones unleashes a grim and ghostly presence from the ancient past with the potential to destroy the tranquil little town.
Join the cast of colourful characters from Song of the Sea Goddess, as they embark on a new adventure where legend and reality intertwine, and once again they must join forces to combat a deadly threat to their otherwise peaceful lives.”
The ebook and paperback will be available to purchase on Amazon, Kobo and Google Books in March, and the recording of the audiobook is underway. I’m really excited to share my new novel with you!
P.S. thanks so much to Paula Light of Light Motifs for her lovely review of Song of the Sea Goddess. It really made my day when I saw it this morning. Do pop over and take a look around Paula’s site!
My pleasure! I’m excited for the sequel 💙

True but the birth/end of labour pains is worth a celebration at the Bistro…
…Because dear friend, there is more to this story!!
(Oh, that’s how you get in trouble with the management🤣)

‘Labour pains’ is right – and forgotten already. Don’t worry about the management – remember, you wrote the tagline, and put up the sign!😉

PS Your book arrived (at last) on Monday. Several stories in… I’m thoroughly enjoying! Also, Lulu books are printed on such good quality paper. Definitely worth the wait. 🙂

The Booksprout folk are pretty helpful, but if you have no luck let me know, I can sent you the .mobi file which you should be able to transfer to your Kindle if you plug it into your PC/laptop.

I have got the .mobi file, thanks, which came through via email, but I use kindle via the app and the file won’t open on my mobile or tablet and I’m not sure how I can transfer it. I will see if I can get it on a PC…if not I’ll have to wait and get a copy when it’s published! Thanks.

I tried to get this, Chris, ready for when I was ready to read it, but the site required feedback by the end of February, and I know I won’t be able to read it by then, so I had to back out… never fear though, I’m a patient chap, and will get a copy when I’m ready! 🙂

Ah yes, Tom, it does have quite a tight timescale. Sorry about that.

What a great blurb, Chris. This sounds amazingly fun. I’ll wait for March so you get a “verified purchase,” but I promise to get to it right away then. Many congrats!

Hi Diana, I appreciate your feedback on the blurb (I re-wrote it so many times!). I really appreciate you waiting to buy the book. Thank you! 🙂

It gives a great “feel” for your quirky characters and the fun style of your writing. Those are wonderful hooks. You did a great job.

Thank you, Diana! Maybe I’m getting the hang of the ‘dreaded blurb’ at last.😂

How clever–I haven’t heard of this app. I do my ARCs through BookFunnel (I think… hmm…). Like a few people have said, I wouldn’t get it read by eo February so I’ll wait. It sounds wonderful, though.

I’m not sure where I came across Booksprout. It must have been via someone in our WP circle. I used them for Sea Goddess and they were very helpful. Sorry, it is short notice for the ARC, I just wanted a few editorial reviews prior to release. I’m itching to publish now 🙂

I completely understand. I’m a good two months from publishing and already itching for it!

HI Chris, congratulations on your new novel. I won’t be able to read and review by 26 Feb so I’ll wait for your launch. Work is completely crazy and I’m barely getting half an hour of reading in a day right now.

Thanks, Robbie, and no worries about the ARC. I’m constantly amazed at how much you manage to do!

I have three committed reads. I’m reading two at the same time and then the third. I also want to read Following the green rabbit. I meant to read it during December but somehow that period was not restful at all.
