White-out world
cold and stark
bleak as the day
you went away
alone in the dark
heart beating
soul freezing
night closes in
no-one to love
no-one to hold
without you
everything
comes to a halt
please will you
throw me
a rope.
A quadrille, written in response to Sadje‘s What do You See #89 photo prompt.

The image shows an old car parked in snow. The luggage rack on the top of the car has a rubber raft on it.
You’ve captured the feeling of poignancy so beautifully Chris. Thanks for joining in

Yet the final word as it may rhyme with nope, it can also do so with hope…👍

So it could! Maybe there’s another verse hidden under the snow?

Thanks, Debra! I think it worked quite well with the stranded car analogy.

This poem was extremely emotional and atmospheric. I like how the typography in the poem reflected its message because the short lines made it seem quite claustrophobic and tight.

I haven’t written a quadrille before, but it seemed just right here with short, almost breathless lines.

for some it may seem as such
as much as i find that hard to conceive
keep on the belief

Yes, there is still a glimmer of hope.

A desperate or subtle plea for help, Chris? It describes the feeling of loneliness to a T.

Almost, but not quite, the same as when desperately in need of chocolate… and there’s none around! 😉

I love the phrase “heart breaking, soul freezing.” The words empty and desolate sprang to mind as I read this. Wonderful work, as always, Chris.

It is always scary to think you are alone… and even when some one asks for a rope, you are afraid.

Just realised I typed lunch instead of punch. Either works, I suppose – I was having a snack at time of writing!

I read it as punch the first time, then on re-reading I wondered if you’d dropped your lunch in the snow… and then I remembered it mid-summer in your part of the world! Too funny! 🤣
