- Speech
- Writing
- Reading
- Numbers
These are all different.
I can mostly talk okay now which is good! However, there is much to do.
Each day I choose to write three sentences with two words, using ‘Multiple Sentences Formulation’ and I do three different things.

I start to write carefully. It’s not easy.

I write on the laptop and then I listen to it.

Then I write it again, and I ask lovely husband, Cliff, to make sure that it’s right.

This takes a lot of time. You see, I can’t get the right word every time yet. Sometimes it could take more than five minutes! Even though I get frustrating. But it’s worth it.
I pop a little line here and there in WordPress. Also, once a week, I have been doing ‘Three Things Challenge’ on Wednesday with the wonderful Di at pensitivity101.
Spring has sprung in the West Coast (in the south hemisphere) and floral buds are springing up. The festive season is fast approaching and the villages and little towns are so abundant in beautiful wild flowers. 🌺🌼🌸
I like to read as much as I can. This is quite difficult still, although it’s much better. And how exciting when my lovely friend, Robbie, posted a few days ago, her ‘Roberta Writes’ for my book, Spirit of Shell Man – even though I can’t read properly yet!
Finally, a little bit of numbers. Did you know that I have aways been a demon Scrabble person? This really helps and it’s such fun, with my great friend, Laurette, each Saturday morning. We have scored each time almost 500, and last week we got to 501! She also put a nice photo with me and my cat, Luna.

Recovery after a stroke is slow, but for a strong and determined woman like you, it won’t be long before you will be writing fluently. I salute your dedication and determination. Bravo my friend. Lots of love and hugs

May I add a couple more things to what I have already told you, Chris ( based on my background):
No matter how long the road ahead of you is, mind yourself not with its length; day by day is how you win this fight.
And, please, do not allow yourself or anyone ( yes, I mean health care professionals too) to Identify you with the situation you are in.
You are not an aphasic person.
You are Chris Hall, who happens to deal with a situation at this time.
Huge difference.
Sending you and Cliff my love and best wishes.

That’s a good point, Nick. For me, it’s not the situation, it’s getting passed. I think it’s because I needed to know what aphasia meant and how I could get there. I hope I make sense!
Thank you so much. And of course, you and Cliff are both artists as well!

I am so sorry I had missed this chapter of your life. I thank you for leaving a little something on my blog on occasion. Very interesting the exercises you do that will lead to your recovery. So the Luna that is part of your blog is actually the name of your cat? What a great companion!

Keep it going Chris. Sometimes less is more, and the slow way is the best way. In my new job for the NHS I’m working in physio/occupational health/speech language. In just a few short weeks I am amazed at the recovery process I have seen with people, and the way the body can be ‘tuned’ – much like a musical instrument. I am in awe of what the human mind and body can achieve when put under such life-changing injuries!

It is such an important job, although I really didn’t know what they did before my stroke. Physio and cognitive coordination came back pretty quickly. What fun it was! But the speech therapy is still quite difficult, although I have come from nothing to here, and more! I had a year with the wonderful two speech therapies but I don’t need them anymore. Although I’d love to see them all. Now I just need practice, practice, practice!

Reading your progress ( in these progress posts) is an example of the best of the virtual world. To see your extraordinary efforts and witness the progress ot is yielding. Very much a privilege.
Not so much the specific physical condition as the power of will (and spirit) in the face of such adversity. Inspiring.

HI Chris, I hope there will be a third story. I enjoyed the first book too. Do you listen to audio books? The speech therapist told Terence to do that after his stroke in January.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I do hope that Terence is fully better. I’m pleased that he likes listening to audio books. But for me, listening to books on an audio is just a waste of time for me. I am desperate to read properly again and I’m getting better all the time.

Our autumn is just beginning, shorter days, cooler weather and even the winter holidays are already on display. It is this time that I look forward to January 5th… I’m not a big holiday person. Each day is a day to love and learn. I don’t need advertising to tell me what to celebrate. ….
I enjoy Scrabble too. But when my hubby and I play we have one goal – make it difficult for the next player to place a word, cover the board, and use all the tiles. We don’t keep score.

I thought of perhaps another fun way to practice numbers… save your canceled postage stamps. Cut them off the envelopes and put them in a jar. Pick out 3 or 4 to add together.
Then maybe you’ll also enjoy some of the artwork?

What a brilliant idea, Jules. Especially as we have lots of old stamps. My husband is very keen to do many things with artwork and I can help too. What fun!

Sorry, Chris, I’m a little late (actually, very late!) In commenting. You’re coming along really well, by the looks of things. You have the drive to move forward and bring things back to how they were, so you’re going to get there. Don’t worry about the frustrations, they’re just another step forward! The important thing is to keep on keeping on, and you’re doing that anyway!
I look forward to reading your next post soon! 🙂 Hopefully I’ll comment on that one within a better time frame!

Aww, thanks for asking, Carol. I am still getting better, but quite slowly. I am very well in many, many ways. But my writing, reading and talking is still not 100% – I have to check everything using the WORD on my laptop so I can listen to make sure it’s correct. Plus my husband also checks the things I put out. Pretty close now though – poor brain!
