‘That’s odd.’
‘What do you mean?’
‘Well… look.’
They both stopped.

‘It’s a new building.’
‘So?’
‘All those structures feel unreal.’
‘What??’
She continued to stare. ‘Definitely peculiar.’

‘But I wonder whether we could get a coffee there?’

They walked up to the building, but then they were both stumped.
‘There’s no doors.’
They peered into the coffee area, although there was no coffee brewing.
‘I don’t think they are real people. They’re definitely busy, but I’m sure they are all bots and artificial cloning things.’

Suddenly all the windows became opaque.
‘More than weird.’
‘Let’s back away… and quickly.’

A sunset surprise

‘Aliens? Can’t be.’
‘What d’you mean?’
‘Oh… nothing.’

They stood together watching another glorious sunset, and saying nothing for several minutes.

‘So why did you mention aliens?’
‘Whoa. Look.’ She pointed her finger as a bright light zoomed across the sky.
He said nothing.
‘Didn’t you see it?’
‘Nope.’
‘Hmm,’ she huffed.

She was still looking around the sky, when another one happened. ‘It’s that little bright green light again.’

But then it dawned on him. ‘Our son’s sitting just inside. He’s playing with a laser pointer pen and it’s green.’
‘Well, at least he’s stopped doodling on our walls!’

‘We went into a little supermarket, didn’t we?’
‘We did. Happy memories…’
‘It was in a foreign place and quaint. You remember?’
‘Greece?’
‘Not that time.’
‘No, you’re right, it was Turkey.’

‘We sat down, since there was a few tables.’
‘And we drank some very thick and sweet coffee.’

‘Then we had a little look around the shelves…’
‘… and we bought some postcards and we sat down again and wrote them.’
‘They even had some stamps.’

‘Then after that we bought a tiny bottle of raki.’
‘And what else?’
‘You must remember that?’
‘Oh, of course – Turkish Delight!’

So where are they?

She’d looked in the bedroom and bathroom. She’d looked in the kitchen and dining room, but no. She was almost positive she had left them in the living room since she’d been reading. She sat down by her coffee table.

She had a thought.

Maybe those glasses had fallen under the couch. She knelt down and poked around, just as her cat appeared. They were at the same level. The cat playfully tapped one paw at her cheek. Suddenly, those glasses dropped from her head.

Aha, clever cat! Those glasses had been there all the time.

At last, something worked, she grinned, I’m so happy!

She had looked out very early, just as the sun poked up. She could see it was fine, as she showered and dressed quickly. She brewed her coffee, as she continued to smile; she wondered what this particular one had managed to cling on to life, since so many hadn’t. Dreadful really, as she mused while supping her coffee.

It was very windy, as usual, as she stepped out into her kind of garden. There it is, as she looked up. My first pretty rockery with some real living little flowers!

More than a sunset

Was it just a story?
I think not. It was real. Very real.
But perhaps just use a beautiful dream? That would work better.

She would walk into the lounge. She would open the double doors into the garden, and then to the still warm pool. Such a treat!
She would sit on the wall, looking at the gorgeous sunset, between the dark waters and the vivid sky.
She would remove a pretty feather to touch it and smooth it. Then she would walk back again.
Closing the double doors.

She would lay down to sleep again.
Sleep on… forever.

That’s a big tree!

‘We can easily climb that big old tree.’
‘Definitely.’
The two boys dropped their bikes.

They both stared at it, then trotted around.
‘Gosh, it’s so tall, we can hardly see the top.’ ‘No probs though.’
‘Which side shall we try?’
‘Tell you what, I’ll go on the bendy one, and you can go on the straight one.’

The two of them jumped up, and began to climb.
The first one went more quickly on the bendy one, while the straight one was rather slower.
But then they almost met at the top.
‘Well, that proves something,’ as they giggled.|

Funny?

It was the middle of the day and the middle of the week. Always the same, just like clockwork. Only the obvious tasks. She would remove the slightly drooping flowers on the top few steps. She’d already brought some new ones to freshen it up.

She looked up to the tall windows and beyond, she said a little prayer, closing her eyes.
But then it happened, and so quickly.

She walked back, slipped and tripped.
Her beautiful blooms were held up.

But, oh dear.

Her bloomers were on show, just as the old rabbi appeared.
What a confusion…
Oops, indeed.

Going Up!

A fascinating building, so tall and slick, and some interesting jutting parts. Most peculiar, but in a good way. Fast escalators and faster lifts, let’s not bother with those stairs – that’s too much time and time is money.

Staring at the window, so clear and sparkly, how would that work, she wondered?
It was her first day to work there, as she sat down in her cubicle.

She had many tasks to do, working flat out for more than two hours. Then a voice appeared, ‘you might like to join us by the window.’

And, of course, that’s history now.

Just dusting…

She’d been humming in an off-key, as she dusted in the music room, moving things around a bit, but not too much. ‘Well, a job is just a job,’ she muttered to herself, as she decided to listen to the radio.

The music was rather bland, strange that it was tuned to that particular station. ‘What nonsense,’ she mumbled, while tuning further.

‘Ah that’s a bit better,’ as she started to hum again.

Her dusting became more vigorous and more animated.
The music felt almost alive.
Suddenly she grabbed the nearest guitar, and she shouted, ‘I’m going to boogie down!’
