She clutches the coin,
her mind’s eye not satisfied
with memories alone.
She needs an affirmation,
a token to cling to
when all else is gone.
Now in the shadow-lands
the mystery deepens,
her sight dims, her heartbeat slows.
In that moment, she fights,
desperate to break their pact,
but still onward the ferryman rows.
Written in response to Sadje’s ‘What Do You See #7′ photo prompt.
Too late to go back now, it seems… Great poem.

Thanks Debra 🙂 I’m still not quite sure where that came from.

Very spooky story – definite Charon ferryman undertones here. Really immersive worldbuilding with such short lines 🙂

What remains are two things; how she got there and of course what is on the other side.
A short drama that draws us in (deeply to our own thoughts…)

All within the scope of the imagination.

That we all come up with different things shows me at least how many individual ideas are still out there… Like the infinite crystals of snowflakes 🙂

How beautifully put, Jules. It’s so interesting to see what everyone else comes up with.
