Rewinding past skirmishes
Regret like a tidal wave
Rocks on resentful oceans
Roils in seas of broken dreams
Restitution overlooked
Renders her bereft of hope
Redemption lost forever.
Written in response to Sadje‘s What do You See #72 photo prompt.

The image shows a young woman in a pensive mood standing outside a storefront. The glass behind her is reflecting a neon sign.
A poignant one there! So apt for the pic Nice Pleiades Chris ..

Oh, so dark, Chris! Beautifully written, but I hope those who are feeling this way will learn that where there’s life, there’s hope! ❤

Your poem powerfully captures the despair on the woman’s face and in her posture.

It was such a powerful prompt: her anguish just oozes from the image.

It does. I felt bad just looking at it.

It took me awhile to comment because this was so thought provoking. I had ideas that I couldn’t find the words for. Besides being sad, it’s a little scary, too. You really captured the feeling of the photo.

It really wasn’t what I’d intended to write, but faced with the image those words just tumbled out…

Oh, I am pleased about that, Debra! It seemed a bit depressing for International Women’s Day.

I think we have all felt like that – lost and unredeemable.
And yet I would like to believe there is always a seed of hope that when ‘watered and loved’ might just grow into something better than what had been …if allowed.

I guess we have to believe that there is a spark of hope somewhere 🙂
