she walked silently
slowly measuring each step
then she stops and thinks
she gently walks again
listening in the cloisters,
is there someone there?
she turns around quickly
holding her notebook and pen,
but no-one is there
it’s so difficult
when you’re a writer

For the visually challenged reader, this image shows an arched veranda, where multiple pillars support a high vaulted ceiling. The sun is casting shadows on the wall behind the veranda. At the end of it is a fancy door.

I like the signs of mystery in the poem. 🙂

I love the unexpected twist here: just when I was thinking it’s all about the spookiness of a room and the fear of monsters lurking in the silence, boom, it just turned out to be the process of writing. Writing is not easy indeed. I swear I do experience a drain at times and have to occasionally stop. But that’s just the sweetest part of it; stopping and continuing with a renewed energy and more interesting thoughts. This short poem is a hit out of the park and a testament to that. I love it, Chris. Glad to see you writing.

Literal? Metaphorical? Both? A lot of depth to this excellent poem, Chris.

In the search for the motif, the hero, the mysterious or the sinister? That’s just hard being a writer, though you have already an excellent start!😉👍💖

Ooh this was a tense poem. A writers imagination always gets them in trouble, but what if some is there? Nicely done, Chris.

Oh yes, a writer’s imagination can easily get the better of her. I have some ridiculous panics and anxieties.

I remember reading a book where the whole thing was based on ‘the writer’ imagining a woman’s foot falls down a palace hall… It was kind of sad though – since the woman had turned out to be a princes on her way to meet her groom, but her ship was overtaken by pirates and she was take in as a concubine to a not so nice king…

I keep a book of books I read… I went through that – but I must have read that book before 2009… I also tried looking it up on line. But nothing seemed to match it.
