Orleans: Joan of Arc celebrations in May and Tour de France 08.07.24
The large doors clanged open and the young woman appeared, she waved and beckoned; now or never, thought the red-head woman, as she entered the ancient house and into the dark hall, the doors closed, and it echoed around the building.
Both women walked through the courtyard, as they looked at each other; ‘I know who you are,’ said the red-head woman, ‘you’re Joan of Arc, aren’t you?’
‘I am indeed,’ she said as she bowed – ‘I know that you are a vampire, as well.’
‘This is all true,’ said Joan, ‘but let me explain,’ she carried on, ‘I managed to get away before I was burned on the stake, and most of that wasn’t true anyway, but I was a hermit for many centuries until I found a few good friends – we still live here – come and meet them,’ she held up her hands, and beamed.
Joan took her hand and led her into the great hall, where several vampires were sitting drinking absinthe; two were playing chess and one was reading, and further on was a big screen where they were watching the television.
‘Oh my goodness,’ said the red-head, ‘that’s the Tour de France, could we go?’

Whew, a mind-bender of an episode–and I had no idea that there is a song about Joan of Arc!

I had so many ideas in my head this time, mostly because I have been watching the cycling in the Tour de France at the moment. Even better I found that the cycling would be going to Orleans this time. There she is, the Maid of Orleans (or Joan of Arc).
I know the song very well as I have had the album for many years. I’ve got OMD on (1982).

Nice unexpected portrayal of Joan of Arc as a vampire.

Quite interesting, I thought. There are several accounts about Joan of Arc and these can’t all be right, although I pushed this almost over the top though!

A modern touch to the ancient story. Keenly awaiting what comes next.

Chris, this story is beyond intriguing! Liz Gauffreau’s word “mind-bender” (in another comment) describes it!

excellent how the new character (Joan) adds motion to the action and, in doing so, pulls in additional characters
(I’ve often said, the hard part about writing a story (especially a serial story) is to decide which of the abundance of branching narrative paths to follow, because when you have an engaging main character, there is not end to the possibilities!)

You are so right, Clark. Where do we start and where do we go, the millionaire question!(I really like Joan, but what next… I wonder?)

So vampires drink absinthe as well as blood. This clears up a lot of questions for me. And opens up possibilites around timeless literature!

Perfect, isn’t it? So many possibilities – it’s useful to mix and match some of these things. What fun!

By the way, what I wrote on your post earlier, I think it disappeared into your spam?! This is what I said: That was fun, Jean. Both just now and these 4 posts earlier – gosh, those dolls are still creepy!

Accursed spam folders! I’m glad you rewrote. That doll was soooooooooooo weird passing year after year. I wonder if it’s still there…
