She was calm,
and in the distance,
all seemed fine.
Evening tide
was quite beautiful,
just mellow.
But not true,
there was no-one there,
all had died.
She sailed on,
like Mary Celeste
and others.
And soon she
disappeared again,
and that was it.

This image shows a sail ship on the sea. In the background we see that the sky is yellow and orange, indicating that the sun is setting.
Written in response to Sadje‘s What Do You See #334 photo prompt.

Floating, Chris, calmness personified, …I wonder what sailing on a flagged vessel was like, … (🎶 sail away, sail away, sail away 🎶)….💙

Hmm, I would wonder too… but there are so many good songs about sailing, … Enya perhaps that you were listening, Penn? 😉💛

Wagner would approve; even The Flying Dutchman needs a break in the action!

Two great thoughts, Liz. Wonderful music, and I can almost see The Flying Dutchman since that ship disappeared just where I now live, only over the Cape Table Mountain – there are even tours there!

Thanks for that, Keith. I do like the idea to have a picture over a mantelpiece, especially if it’s a ship.

I agree, there is something mysterious, otherworldly about the image of a ship at sea when all we see are the ocean and the ship.

Strange, isn’t it… an anomaly, I would say.

It could be fun on a big beautiful ship as long as the oceans were very flat and warm! 😉

How sad that they all died, whoever they were 🤔 Love the photo! Ships like that have always fascinated me.

Yes, it was very said for many sailors especially in the old days. There are so many wrecks around the southern coast of Africa. But now I’m wondering whether you have been on a big ship? Pleasant? 🛳️

Oh – you have reminded me of some bits of news about ships that have been lost for 70 years or more and have been found! Yes, on the bottom of what ever lake or water…
“Ghost ships.” …. 👻⚓

Really interesting aren’t they! I have seen some footage on the TV… someone called Josh (can’t remember his surname).
