Everyone was out. The father, the mother and the two children were busy going to the shops.
Meanwhile, there was something moving slowly inside. It slithered down and writhed around the house. People craned outside, looking at the house.
A little later the father, mother and the two children came home, wondering who was looking in their window. ‘Please go away,’ said the father.
But what had happened?
They heard a noise as they opened the door, but none of them were worried.
‘Oh, there he is. Look!’
‘He managed to get out.’
The two children carefully picked him up.
‘Come, Henry, back in the tank.’
It was only the huge and lovely snake. He’s a beautiful boa.

I think snake-pets are kind of cute, or at least the way kids love them. I have little ones in my yard that I’m quite happy with. 🙂

That was me – not a great fan of snakes, I’d definitely have left the children to put Henry back in his tank.

Ok I was waiting for it to be something scary… Glad it was just old Henry the snake lol. What’s funny is that last night I was searching the Swedish Roots site for pictures of 1 woman and 1 pet, mostly expecting to see them with cats. And there was a photo of a lady with a huge snake draped over her shoulders! I didn’t save it but now I think I’ll go back and find it for my “Vintage Pets” post that I’m planning. 🐍

I actually grew up with a boa… our dad brought it home when it was pencil thin and maybe a foot long… he finally found it a new home when it grew too large for him to care for. I remember taking the pet dogs for a walk on a summer day with the snake around my neck…. I did get quite a bit of odd lookie-loos!
