The little lighthouse sits proudly just beyond the beautiful bay. Mostly it is sunny and bright, where the sea and sky are blue and bluer. The waves dance with the white foam, ebb and flow, ebb and flow. But sometimes the wind and rain lash around the rocky promontory, as it clashes and moans. It goes dark and there is no moon, but the little lighthouse flashes boldly around, keeping the boats and ships from harm. And then, in the morning, it is light and sunny again.
dear little lighthouse
you shine gaily day and night
keep us safe always

For the visually challenged reader, this image shows a lighthouse located on a tiny piece of land near a rocky coastline. The sea around it is misty and gray.
Written in response to Sadje‘s What Do You See #256 photo prompt.

A beautiful tale of the lighthouse and a charming haiku to make me want to visit. Well done.

I wonder if there are any children’s books about lighthouses. If there aren’t, there should be.

Lighthouses are usually at the ocean, but very large lakes have them too!
Each lighthouse has it’s own signature design. Quite amazing when you thing about it. Even the ones that are still up, but have been taken over by govenments. There are very few in the states if any that are private. Many have been opened as museums. A few are even B & B’s. I read where one was turned into a private home (though the woman only uses it seasonally (in nicer weather – not in cold winter).

Gosh, that’s really interesting. I seem to remember going to somewhere in Namibia where up to 4 people could stay on a lighthouse but it was quite difficult to get there, but we decided not to. Pity though.

Some lighthouse residences are not located at the lighthouse. And others have sort of a home at the bottom, not rooms throughout the ‘tower’.
I would imagine lighthouses in general are not easy to access. Some only by boat.
