Hemingway’s Royal typewriter in Key West, Florida
Now this is the red-headed writer, aka the Raconteuse, who had been reading on the long train more than two weeks ago; but now she had written a lovely review about Elizabeth Gauffreau called: Simple Pleasures: Haiku from the Place Just Right, it had super photos with each poem – it was wonderful.
She had been looking over the Hemingway House, just round the corner where she was staying at the rather nice villa where there was a maid and a cleaner (how posh); she had lingered around the library, particularly the old typewriter and the chaise-longue – she would have loved to sit by the great man… but at least she had met several six-toed cats; meanwhile she carried a book: Hemingway’s Boat by Paul Hendrickson (she had almost finished it).
For lunch she had had a gorgeous waiter, who had been helpful as she ordered some delightful crayfish (almost as good as Mimi’s) and also a large slice of Key lime pie (she should mention that to the Bartender next time too).
Then she wandered down to the beach to sit and read her Kindle; she’d read it before, it’s called One Day I Was by Joe Leonardi.
The Raconteuse had fallen asleep but the red-head woman was ready to work.
It was night and Hemingway House was locked, but the Gatekeeper helped her to climb up and over the railings; she quickly broke a small panel of glass on one of the bottom windows and then she was through.

That’s right! There’s a real woman (sort of) and a fictional woman😉

Looks like a number of likely objects to lift. Typewriter might be obvious, but I’d scan the bookshelves for sure…
That Donna Summer tune evokes a definite mood of smooth and efficient movement. 💃

Yes, I think something light is best, but something expensive… maybe a first edition? I wonder whether the red-head woman will dance around the library??

How long must we wait for the dance?!

Nice to hear Donna Summer, I should pull that record from my old collection in vinyl and dance around.

Please pass along my thanks to the Raconteuse for the wonderful review of Simple Pleasures! Hmm, I wonder what she’s after in Hemingway’s Key West house. When my husband and I visited Key West we had Key lime pie. It was really good!

So glad that everything went well for both you and your husband (and the Raconteuse).
But next week… who knows??

I’ve locked myself out… and had to go in through a window… but now with the new ones (years ago) it isn’t as easy to do… Careful now – don’t get caught!!

That typewriter – magical to the touch. And those darned cats – six toes, the lot of them interbred.

Breaking into Hemingway’s house – fantastic. On a side note, seeing his typewriter is definitely on my bucket list!

That house, definitely interesting, and maybe something odd. And yes, it would be great to visit Key West.

I love the way you have a tale to tell and tell it so well and then weave in all sorts of connections.

what an excellent adventure-ette
(liked your Reply to Sadje… we are all, to the degree we are will to risk, fictional beings in a virtual world)
PS damn! good choice in accompliceseses… Nick. Not for nothin’ but I got a feeling that if Hemingway wandered into the scene (of your B&E) Nick’d blow a cloud of cigar smoke and convince the old man to sit and have a drink. (In his own house!)
lol
do enjoy hanging out with you guys

La Raconteuse and the red-headed writer definitely know how to have a good time.
And for sure she needs to talk to the Bartender about key lime pie. Bet it’s fabulous in Key West. But enough about pie! What is this late night escapade?!

I see you made it to Hemmingway’s House. I remember the cats and the pool and a story about a dime he threw into the pool when he and his wife had an argument over money. She went it and retrieved the dime cementing it into the walkway. At least that’s what I remember, perhaps wrongly.

Gosh that’s so interesting – sounds right. I will have to look in my several books to see what one of them says. Thanks, Frank.
