all the poppies drift again
as another war breaks out
more violence, more atrocities
so many lives wasted…
millions are homeless
trudging along with little hope
will this ever change?
okay – no more war
let’s ask around the world
is there a new way?

For the visually challenged reader, this image shows a field of red poppies, in the middle of which two trees are growing. In the back, the sun is rising in a sky where a few scattered clouds are floating! 11-11 is celebrated as Armistice day/ Remembrance Day to celebrate the end of WW I. And red poppies are symbolic of this day.
Written in response to Sadje‘s What Do You See #262 photo prompt.

Compelling and sobering poem, Chris.

Sadly yes, I’m afraid, Dave… and something is worse now too
(I’m not mentioning that though)

red colours
in the field
as at the somme
or flanders
the war did not end it so
we know
peace is still none of the least
which we truly desire

A beautiful, heartfelt, and sorrowful poem, Chris. If we could only honor the fallen by ensuring they were the last. Doesn’t seem we care all that much.

This is why we cannot, must not, forget what history has shown us. And it seems more and more that it’s up to parents to share history with their kids because schools keep de-prioritizing or redefining what worthwhile history is…

There is always a way, Chris, but who wants the solution? War mongers definitely don’t.

Beautiful and sad.
I think step 1 is identifying these people in the military industrial complex who benefit from wars.
Then exposing them.
The people will then have the power to stop, shame, and reject their ways.

Absolutely, but it’s very difficult, and shame too.

I think the majority would argree on peace. If we could only get the ‘leadership’ on board.
