How many years have we been playing?
Oh yeah, lots of years.
We’ve almost finished all the paper from our Xerox box.
Yep, that’s right, all those scores that we’ve scored!
Okay, who wants to start?
Hmm, see, I’ve got a ‘phone’. I’ll put it from the middle to the top – that’s 13. You.
Oh bother! I don’t usually show you this but I am so cross. I would add ‘phone’ to ‘xylo’ to make ‘xylophone’ but there is not room.
Is ‘xylo’ a word?
Not sure, but I’m not going to use that at the moment. Hmm, muttering to myself, not putting that yet (it’s yeti), nor even ‘xyst’, which I also have – a new word a couple of weeks ago, but I will just do this: ‘heist’ – that’s 12.
Later, it’s almost one o’clock, and we have finished our game.
You need to get back, but just before we will listen to the radio. We always tune in to the BBC 4 longwave.
Okay?
There will be a very bad storm, possibly even a gale.
Time to run!
545 score – 25.01.25
our real score

Pretty good, but we have never managed to get over 600… yet!

I’ve gotten over 600, but it took two games. 🙂

X and Y were such fun this weekend. Hope the storms / gales haven’t been too bad for you, Di?

The wind is bitterly cold but then it always is here. So far not too bad though.

A fun story, Chris. I love playing scrabble, but I think these competitors are too smart for me. That’s a great score!

I very much doubt that, Diana – I’m laughing back to you!! 😂

I always found Scrabble rather annoying. Too much competitiveness.

Well, yes, it can get to that, but not me and my friend. Fortunately!!

A great take on the prompt, Chris, and a warm snapshot of an evening with a friend.
I like listening to the Shipping Forecast – there’s something really reassuring about it.

I’m glad that you found my take was okay, Jenne. Slightly odd, I admit.😉

Very professional! You might, but try it in German!!😉😂
It is an Intriguing short story; well done, dear Chris.💖🤗

Haha, thanks for that, Aladin ☺️😉 – German from me? Very sorry, but no – never learned it, I’m afraid. French when I went to school – years and years ago. However, my Scrabble friend suggested we could play in Afrikaans – fine for her, but not for me – I still don’t speak much of that, apart from the naughty ones. 😂🤔😂

This is an amazing write. A fantastic play on the prompt. And use of words too. Well done, Chris.
I am trash at scrabble though..my sis in law bests me every time.. not even a sniff of victory lol

scrabble and meta (surely the two most natural partners since sex and cigarettes*)
*sorry… GP version: ‘since ‘breakups and slow decline into a slow pit of self-inflicted suffering…**
** no, wait a minute, can I have a do-over on the natural partners? lol

Humph. Well, just up the game – that would make all the difference (probably}.
Or otherwise, let’s get busy with a Cribbage board – how many scores now?
And still rising!😂

I love Scrabble! In fact I have a Scrabble-type game on my iPad, it’s not “Words With Friends”, you just play against the iPad. But I stayed awake till past 1:00 am playing it last night! When I was teaching, we played Scrabble in Spanish and it was so fun! 😀

Hmm, I thought you would be a Scrabble person☺️- excellent, of course. Interesting about the game that you play on your iPad. That would be good in bed (I’m thinking). Also, impressed that you would play Scrabble in Spanish with the kids when you were a teacher. Did you need a different Scrabble board?🤔

Yes, they actually make them in Spanish, and they have the tiles for the special letters like “ñ”. You just have to do without the accent marks, lol. My dad made me a set out of plywood tiles that were big enough so we could move all the desks to the sides and lay them out on the floor like a giant scrabble board. The class had to be small enough to split into manageable teams and each team started with 7 tiles and acted as a single “player”. I always let them use a dictionary because their vocabulary wasn’t enough to play without it. But we had so much fun! I always wished I could paint my classroom floor like a Scrabble board!😂😂

Ah ha, I understand. Clever your dad, then! Also, I love the idea that you might have painted the floor in the classroom!☺️😂
