it’s bleak
no sign of life
it’s stark
and yet, the colours are magnificent
it glares white
livid, and burning beneath
and yet, it’s beautiful
huge dunes rise up
is there anyone there?
but there’s no-one
so do we know whether the dunes move?

For the visually challenged reader, this image shows black/ brown trees growing in a desert valley and the brown sand dunes can be seen in the background.
Written in response to Sadje‘s What Do You See #277 photo prompt

The angle you are watching from matters 🙂

Quite the dreamscape. Maybe we are not meant to know.

I think both the dunes and the sand moves too. A very interesting take Chris. Thanks for joining in.

Actually I do know. We have been to Namibia and we have seen the dunes and the sand rippling.😉

Let us look beyond the lovely colorful flowered green hills. Beauty and wonder is still to be found.

Oh that sounds lovely. So fresh and beautiful, and maybe a little waterfall as well…

Chris, I love the way you balance starkness with beauty in this. It feels both desolate and mesmerizing at once.
Much love,

Namibia is a wonderful place; stark but so interesting, and on the coast there are diamonds – still!
Thanks, Dave.

I always wondered who goes and measures how far the dunes moved! What a wonderfully lonely feeling poem, well done, Chris.

Measuring dunes? Now that would be interesting!
Thanks, Mason! (I’ll read yours later)

They always say the dunes move across the country. How do they know right?
You’re welcome, and no rush or pressure. Have a good day.

Reminds me of a tree in the forest. Does it make a sound falling if no one is there? The Dunes are a sight to see…and I bet they move. 😊 Nice one Chris.

Tee-hee, almost the first thing I thought about writing about dunes made me think about the trees in the forests, and whether they make a noise.😂

A fine question to conclude a great poem, Chris.
There is, of course, beauty in everything.

Cool poem! Like one of your commentors, I thought the same thing about the tree in the forest!😂Also from the comments I picked up that there are diamonds in Nambia? That might be a good place for a Foster and Panda mystery…🤔

Ooh, now there’s a good thought for Foster and Panda. Just one little diamond would be lovely… but haven’t they been somewhere else with some diamonds in the past? Or did I just make that up?!? 😺🐼☺️😂

No you’re right, it was in Australia when the men in orange jackets were running a diamond stealing ring!😂💎 But you never know when the MIOJ will turn up next…🤔

I think I missed this one? We just finished that DUNE documentary and I love this idea of the dunes themselves traveling, seeking something beyond…

That documentary looks good, and yes, those dunes really move, as I’d seen them in Namibia!
