She was slumbering, peacefully, for a long, long time. Will she open her eyes? Not yet. She was fine for the autumn, turning this way and that, making herself more comfortable. Then it turned to the wintery time. It was darker and colder, frigid and stark. She hunkered down, keeping herself warm, as she delved down. Slowly, slowly the winter passed, and suddenly… it was spring! She opened her eyes and looked out.
hey, little squirrel
lovely to see you again
here’s some nuts; enjoy!
…
Squirrels take all sorts of things for their nests, including bits of newspaper and magazines. It kind of reminded me about this photo, so I used it for my prose/poem.

For the visually challenged reader, this image shows a woman, her head resting in an aperture of a rock. Her eyes are closed and she appears to be sleeping.

Second poem today that referenced squirrels. Maybe it’s an omen…..

What a lovely poem of surviving the seasons. We have a squirrel in the woods who made her nest using a ready salted crisp packet. it was amazing how she wove it into the twigs way up in the tree.
Well done, Chris.

Glad that you liked that, Mason. I know a lot about squirrels since there are all around our neighbourhood. Interesting they don’t need to sleep since it’s never too cold and there is still enough food for them in South Africa.

Those will happy squirrels not needing to sleep for weeks at a time to avoid the cold.
I always wanted to go to South Africa. I even created a story around Craddock and the Karoo national park once.

I love the symbolism my mind created: Tossing and turning in a cold home until comfy covers warm you up to a toasty home. – Bring on the coffee…and a new day/ season! Nice one Chris.

Cute poem, Cris! I often have up to nine squirrels around my bird feeders. they are so acrobatic and comical to watch. They often climb the screen on the lanai and peer in at me.

Squirrels can be entertaining and annoying. I think I’ve finally worked out how the birdies and squirrels can co exist in my yard. The squirrel have their own feeders – even though they still try to raid the birds food!
I like your ‘fairy’ tail…
