The red-headed writer (aka la Raconteuse) had only been in this apartment for just over a month now, and the lease was pretty generous in this neighbourhood, she was able to stay there for a year, or even three years, if she wanted to, and she does… very much so.
The place had been renovated several years ago, mostly by a master builder, she’d met him – nice man, she remembered; she was just about to leave, taking her various things with her, but then she thought she should water her plant, it was an aster –pretty and showy, all those little purple flowers, and it was still alive, rather a miracle.
Then done, she locked the front door and began to walk down all those stairs, and as usual she stopped half-way, looking up and down, and this time she thought about those handsome walls, off-cream, and meticulous, those wonderful plasterers must have worked very hard.
She turned to look out at the other buildings and then to the river beyond, since she would always yearn for any large river which flowed out to the ocean.
She’d been thinking about what she’d written over the last week, and she was fairly pleased about that at the moment.
But before anything else she needed some strong coffee, and maybe a bagel; so she began to walk quickly, since it was always better to be sitting in one of those tables in the Six-Sentence-Café-and-Bistro, where the most helpful people are there.

Good chapter Chris. Lovely music…. not a fan of Rod Stewart, but this is a fantastic version of Sailing. I’m a sucker for strings and orchestras!

Thanks, Di! – Glad that I found that version on YouTube.😉

I grew to like his music more when he started singing the old stuff with the big bands.

Ooh, I think la Raconteuse has a beautiful flat! Are those cornices? Is there a ceiling rose, too? Ooh, what a dream to live in a flat like that!

Gorgeous place… even better where I used to stay in one of the flats in Liverpool. It was chopped into 6 flats although before it had been a nightclub at one time, and before that they was an important doctor who worked in the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine – so very posh!

What a treat to live in such a place, to be its caretaker for a brief time during its long duration.

The Raconteuse will be able to get a lot of writing done in her new place. The aster plant adds a nice touch for feel good mood writing.

Lucky to find that great place, so lets hope her writing will continue – nothing worse than losing a plot.😉

I feel that this is the calm before the storm… I refuse to be lulled into complacency by her apartment or her breakfast! I fear there is a turn of events as soon as she settles in to write!

She sounds like a good sort to have for a neighbor. And I like the feel and location of her new place. I think I might want to stay there too.

Good decision for her… such a nice place, even though there are so many steps up and down on that top apartment building.

Of course you’re handsome… and fun… and clever too, however, I’m beginning to think we might need a bigger boat! And yes, we shouldn’t talk about the great (hush) shark. 🤣💖😉

I have it on good authority the Bartender is very pleased the red-headed writer lives so close to her and especially so close to the Six Sentence Café and Bistro. The new apartment sounds wonderful. Love that the walls are off-cream but more importantly, the river leading out to the ocean. A writer’s inspiration at the ready.
Ya know what? Coffee and a bagel sound pretty good at the moment 😉
Excellent scene, Chris.
