it’s early morning
sitting inside and staring out
drinking warm rooibos
looking up, who’s there?
they’re definitely married
these two darling doves
we’d thrown out some seeds
but meanwhile we have breakfast
and that’s lovely too
~~~
It’s a senryu series – delightful!
Morning doves and other doves are just different pigeons…
Oh, maybe there is;While pigeons and doves are often used interchangeably, the primary difference is linguistic, not taxonomic. Both belong to the same family, Columbidae, but “dove” is generally used for smaller, more delicate-looking birds, while “pigeon” is used for larger, more robust birds, especially those found in urban areas. There isn’t a strict scientific definition separating the two. 🙂
Thanks Jules! I didn’t know about the species between the doves and pigeons. Something new! I shall re-read my big bird book. 😉
I love mourning doves! They come into my back yard and I love the sound they make. Where we lived when I was growing up we heard them every morning also, so the sound of them reminds me of my childhood.
G’morning Chris, an uplifting poem… and what a beautiful start to your day, … I love the sky, the colour is amazing, … As are the doves, of course, … Two lovebirds, … We get some visitors, early morning, long with a blackbird singing sweetly, …(This is beginning to sound like a Disney Scene) …💫
