this is my pond just at the moment, there are several tiny frogs around up there
the pond is alive
small frogs are making merry
with some willow fluff
spring dawn is the day
young grasses wave to them
frogs are on the move
they begin to climb
staring at the bright blue sky
they’ll take to the trees

Well, the world (I think) is round, but an oval is useful for cricket, or indeed for crickets…they are getting noisy.

The cottage was on a frog and toad highway. When we sorted out the garden, we unearthed three baby baths and two pond liners. This explained why we would have hundreds of tiny frogs every year when we tried to give the lawn its first haircut. One of our chickens caught a large frog and went running off with it.
When she eventually let it go, I thought it was dead, but it was playing possum. My sister used to collect frogs and had over 300 in her collection. Drove my Mum mad as she had to dust them!

My goodness, that’s too much of a good thing with that many frogs and toads. I have never seen a chicken go for a frog, although we had both of those at one time. However, we did have a lovely cat, called Hemingway, he’d chased those frogs all around the garden, but not to touched them, fortunately. Those frogs made such a huge noise at that time!

When we were on the boat, I remember seeing a rather large toad trying to get into the ladies shower block one evening. I’m glad it didn’t as the resident ‘screamer’ was in there…………. she hated spiders (as do I) crane flies, moths, may bugs, and no doubt this toad would have sent her right over the edge.

I must admit I really enjoy that rather large pond, although it needs a bit of clearing up, but not quite yet. Not to disturb any tadpoles and frogs. Soon there will be dragonflies as well. That pond used to be a pool for swimming. Not my idea to enjoy that… and all that chlorine, ugh. It’s so much better!
Enjoy your weekend, Penn!!😊

I love this poem! Frogs are cute. I used to love reading the “Frog and Toad” books to my English Learner classes. It sounds fun to have a pond, but here in Fresno it would probably always be dry 😆or else it would become a breeding ground for mosquitoes! 🤔

Hmm, I can see what you’re saying about those pesky mosquitoes. We are very lucky that they don’t seem to come here, although they are about and around in many places here.😊

I don’t know why but this wonderful post made me think of someone who was talking about insects that live for only one day. If it’s just one day, make it a spectacular day. That’s a great reminder for all of us xxx

Such a very good point, Gary. I know those mayflies live only one day… I’ve seen them on that pond, it’s usually a little later in the spring.

Frogs are good luck in many cultures. 🙂
I recently found out frogs have round faces and toads faces are pointy.
The frog I thought I found… was a toad! But I do think I have frogs in the creek 🐸
