a view from our stoep
it’s almost Christmas
and we will have a fish feast
elegant, possibly
but don’t miss any lovely juice
since we will have some mussels
~~~
Keith Floyd’s Moules Marinière
Ingredients
- Fresh mussels, cleaned and de-bearded
- Butter
- Shallots (or onion)
- Garlic, unpeeled and crushed
- Fresh parsley
- Good white wine
Instructions
- Prepare the mussels: Clean them thoroughly, removing any beards or barnacles.
- Melt the butter: In a large saucepan, melt a generous amount of butter over high heat.
- Sauté aromatics: Add the chopped shallots, crushed garlic, and most of the parsley to the melted butter. Stir for a moment.
- Add wine: Pour in the white wine and let it come to a boil.
- Cook the mussels: Add the mussels to the pot, cover tightly, and cook over high heat for a few minutes until they open. Shake the pan occasionally.
- Discard any mussels that remain closed.
- Serve the mussels immediately with their juice and sprinkle with the remaining parsley.
- Enjoy: It is customary to serve with crusty bread for dipping in the flavourful sauce.
This sounds very yummy
Interesting! Mussels instead of turkeys! It looks delicious; I can’t wait to try some. 😉😋
It’s far too hot to eat turkey and all the trimmings for Christmas. So pop around some time and we will cook some more mussels (we keep some in the freezer at this time).
😎🎄😋
Oh, I see! That reminded me of the Persian New Year celebration at the start of spring, where people mainly eat fish with rice. 🤗
Sadly shellfish and I do not agree, and mussels are a definite no-no.
Oh, sorry about that. I’m happy to eat many shellfishes, although nothing raw. I was very sick having eaten oysters many years ago – never again.
I like prawns, but that’s about it, though I remember sitting down to a plate of winkles and a pin as a kid. Saturdays were either winkles or sprats, and I didn’t like the latter. Dad would get a ‘pint of winkles’ from the fishermen on the quay. Happy days.
I’m smiling. That sounds just like my Dad – winkles or sprats on Sunday tea-time!
Srsly, the beards are freaking me out, so I might just stay with bread and wine…😆😆
I LOVE mussels and fish! What a sweet poem. Tell Luna that Chloe and Sophie love fish too. 🎄
Neither have I eaten mussels. I don’t like how they look. I haven’t eaten snails or fish eggs either. Oh, or frogs legs.
Not everyone’s taste I admit, but yes, I do enjoy nice fish and shellfishes too. It’s a Christmasy thing here!
I’ve gotten used to more fish as I’ve gotten older, but shell fish – I’ll let you have that delecacy 🙂
Yes, it is good to have someone else and or others help make the feast enjoyable with their contributions!
