figs from my garden and in my kitchen
it’s Christmas
a buffet, a treat
a fun day
there are figs galore
the smell, the taste is divine
so much going on
we will eat
and enjoy the day
squirrels too
yes, that’s right
they pick lots of them
naughty ones
so open presents
and sit outside, lovely, and
a little champagne
~~~
Loved your quartet of American cinquains, Robbie, really fab
– we’re only around the corner (kind of).
For Colleen Chesebro’s #TankaTuesday #44 – 23 December 2025, where this week’s host, Robbie Cheadle’s invitation is to reflect on holiday Christmas celebrations and family gatherings, using one, some or all, of the five senses as muses in a syllabic poem.
I hope your Christmas was wonderful dear friend. These figs look gorgeous.
Thank you so much, Sadje! A nice quiet celebration yesterday, apart from the naughty squirrels and many lovely birds in our garden.
Figs are rarely offered here fresh- they are delicious though!
Such a shame that you can’t get fresh figs, even in the summer. Too north, I guess.
Christmas is a time to try out new recipes. Make something special and invite friends for a little get together. If the new recipe dish is gone … I keep it. If there is lots left over … I toss the recipe. lol Figs must be a keeper.
New recipes – very daring I would say. I have so many recipes already, and I have done them several times and more!
I have recipes written on scraps of paper somewhere. Never can find them. Saves the problem of cooking them.
How lovely! We had paella here in Colombia, which is apparently the traditional dish for Christmas. It was as delicious as your poem.
Oh gosh, paella – how gorgeous. I have often made that – got that proper pan (bought it from Ronda). Mm, time to make it again and very soon… 🥘
I hope you enjoy this time on your side… keep warm. Is it snowing? Often does, I seem to remember. ☃️❄️
Here in Germany, snow has not fallen, despite the very cold weather: -7 °C. 🥶😂
We are lucky in many ways – figs in that climate do very well. The fresh figs are so sweet! I must pick some more today…
We had a couple of fig trees in our yard while growing up. My mom used to make strawberry fig jam. I was never a major fig fan, but I can still see them sitting in a stainless steel bowl on the kitchen counter!😀
Ah, what a lovely memory… strawberry and fig jam – pretty sweet and all those tiny pips I would imagine. 😉
