A Sunflower Tanka 🌻 but of course!
this tanka is good
even inspired, I’m thinking
it’s a lovely day
let’s open the double doors
and walk out to the garden
the fragrance is sweet
there’s a second flush of toms
basil, rosemary, dill
I have my watering can
to hand, I potter around
summer is waning
yet flowers are still thriving
roses are glorious
as I continue to walk
and there they are… sunflowers

This image shows two hands touching a big sunflower, that is growing in a field of sunflowers.
Written in response to Sadje‘s What Do You See #329 photo prompt.

So beautiful Chris. You brought the spring inside the home. Thanks for joining in.

Glad that you like that, Sadje. Such a lovely photo with all those sunflowers… and my poem was almost completely true (minus the sunflowers though). 😂

A beautiful and delightful poem, dear Chris, although it evokes feelings of envy, as we have been deprived of sunshine here for an extended period. 😅🥰💖🌞

Oops, sorry about the freezing weather in so many places in the north bit. Of course it’s still summer here in the south bit, but I can feel autumn is just around the corner. Keep warm on your side, dear Aladin! 🥶🥰💖🍵

“summer is waning”–in our case, winter is. It can’t happen soon enough!

Gosh, I saw the news about the freezing temperatures… blizzards and stuff. That’s bad, and brrr!

I know we’re in a warming trend of an ice age. I wonder if that’s ending. Sigh.

Some very nasty winter weather on your side. I’ve been watching the TV on the BBC World News, it’s bad on the NE in US. Ugh!

Very nice tribute to summers’ coming to an end. We’re in the midst of a snowstorm.

All that dreadful weather about the US and other places. I saw the news yesterday about blizzards. Must watch again shortly – lunchtime soon here.

We haven’t seen this number of bad snow storms in several years.

Delightful and beautifully written, Chris. I don’t live where there’s a blizzard, but it’s 27 F here, and I can’t wait until spring. 🌻

I just looked up the celsius: -2. Now that is v. cold! Brrr… indeed. Okay, spring and autumn are both lovely… soon then.🌻🌻

Yay! Sunflowers!! 🌻 Flourishing everywhere except in my back yard. 😂 A moment of silence for Sunny the Sunflower, please.

Ah shame, no sunflowers on your place, but you have so many flowers, bushes and all those interesting things – like huge cactuses! 🌺💮🌵

Just popped into my head. Well, that gorgeous photo about sunflowers and my actual garden at the moment. It had to be a tanka or three it seemed. 😊

So evocative; sunflowers. They always captivate me. Both their brightness and also their sadness when facing downward.
