Chicago, Chicago! What a wonderful city. We know it’s called the Windy City, but from here in this lovely hotel it seems blissful. Such a gorgeous view. We can see for miles and miles. All those striking skyscrapers. What a joy!
So we crane our heads at those views to see the river. The river? No, we mean that huge lake. Ah yes, Lake Michigan. That’s the one.
Okay, so what are we going to do now?
Well, we’ve dropped our stuff in this very nice room.
I’m saying, food.
We could go to get a couple of Chicago-style hot dogs… Downtown Dogs?
Or let’s push our boats out, what about ‘Girl and The Goat’. It’s a very good restaurant, apparently.
Now you’re talking!
so let’s leave them there
since we know some good new facts
anyone else to go?

This image shows the view from inside a hotel room out of the window. High rise buildings present a calm scene. According to the photographer it is; Nobu hotel-Chicago; the city never asks to be let in. The bed is made and the room seems unoccupied.
Written in response to Sadje‘s What Do You See #336 photo prompt.

Hey, wait for me, Chris!
What a lovely write, Chris. You captured the view from the window perfectly. 🧡

It would be wonderful to go together, wouldn’t it? I mean, it’s only across half of the world for each of us! Okay, see you soon, Punam. 🌍🌏🌎

Yup! What’s half a world across, right! 😉
Will be there soon! 🤣

Chris, I just learned that Chicago is called the Windy City not just because of the weather, but because people used to say the politicians talked a lot. I’ve been there a few times, and it’s a really fun city. I hope you have a great time there!

Now another fact then! Thanks for telling me about those politicians over there, David. But whether I will go over anywhere in the US is rather unlikely for me. As you know, I often make things up, and that’s fine.

Having lived just one block north of Chicago (in Evanston) for a year and often going into “The Windy City,” I thoroughly enjoyed this, Chris.

Oh, how excellent, Dave. Such an interesting place I’m sure. The closest I got there was reading several novels… especially from V.I. Warshawski!

Chicago, wow! Let’s explore that historic city, but we should stay clear of Al Capone! (or maybe just call in Eliot Ness?) 😉☺️

I lived in Chicago for four years and enjoyed it when I was young, but I have no desire to return. The weather is terrible!
Kudos for making your fiction believable 👍🏻

I love the Chicago hot dogs. We’ve visited Chicago several times. It is a fun city to visit and we certainly won’t forget the T-Rex at the Field Museum. Sue is named after its discoverer Sue Hendrickson.

Sounds fun to visit that museum there. Love the name for the most complete T-Rex!

Yes you are right, it is the most complete T-Rex fossil and I can add that one of my favorite IPAs, King Sue, is named after Sue the T-Rex and it has a T-Rex on beer can label. If you go to the breweries website (Topplin Goliath) they explain about the T-Rex and about Sue Hendrickson, the discoverer.

Great to begin with food. Chicago is great to discover through its food. And remembered always by the stomach. Lake Michigan is gorgeous. Head down to Lake Shore Drive from your Nobu Hotel. I’ll meet you there. Beautiful.

I have never been there, but I have at least two WIP novels that involve the location.
Not sure why, but I’ve spent hours on google earth Streetview walking up and down the streets of chicago
plus one of my favorite villainesseseses, Anya Clarieaux is headquartered in a building that used to be called Big Red (for it’s color). It’s a real building at 333 South Wabash

Hmm, interesting, I really think I need a change of scenery, and pretty soon. The whole gang in Paris have had a long straight run about interesting nonsense. It’s time for the red-headed writer (aka la Raconteuse) to find something to do around the Café and further – like that big red building in the centre of Chicago… perhaps? Meanwhile, I’ll write this down – 333 South Wabash.

Well I, for one, think that if you ever come to the US you should come to Fresno! It’s pretty famous for being a place where people say they don’t want to go🤣🤣 Seriously though, I came across some letters that one of my grandpa’s brothers had written him about staying in Chicago in the 1920s. I started researching to do a blog post about it a long time ago. Now I think I’m inspired to dig out the info again. 😀
