  1. “Funeral Blues” by W.H. Auden is a famous poem expressing profound grief, famously known as “Stop all the clocks,” which captures the feeling that the world should stop after a loved one’s death. The poem uses stark imagery, commanding clocks to stop, pianos to fall silent, and airplanes to write “He is Dead” in the sky, as the speaker declares the deceased was their everything—their “North, my South, my East and West”. It concludes with a desire to dismantle the sun, moon, and ocean, as nothing good can come again.
