A new museum

This is a black and white image of five people standing by the railing in a museum looking down at something or someone. There are 2 women and 3 men.

Written in response to Sadje‘s What Do You See #355 photo prompt.

  1. Museums and the pieces within mean different things to different people. Some want to enjoy the aesthetic, some want to learn from them, and some want to possess them.

  2. glad you wrote this… it somehow (after reading) made me go back and consider the stances/postures of the people in prompt photo.

    v cool

(keep your eye on the woman at the far left in the print dress, she’s totally up to something)

    • That’s a good question. How about this? Tiny ancient gold coins are miniature currency pieces issued by early civilizations, such as the 2,200-year-old Ptolemaic gold coin depicting Queen Berenice II and the bead-like Piloncitos of the ancient Philippines. (Google was useful by the way).

  3. I didn’t understand what you meant by the line, only a put through, so I looked it up Chris and found this. In British English, a punt is a long, flat-bottomed boat that you push along a river with a long pole. Example: “We didn’t rent a motorboat, it was only a punt though.”

  4. There’s something so human about this, the moment of real desire followed by the practical acceptance of ‘can’t have it.’ But I love how the poem makes it seem like the disappointment isn’t a letdown at all. It’s just the rhythm of moving through beauty. Also, I’m dying to know what those tiny things actually are. Did you imagine a specific object when you wrote this, or does the mystery feel like the whole point? 💙

    • I’m pleased that you thought about what I had written, and I am glad that you seemed to enjoy that, Khadija. So, my answer is this. I hadn’t really thought about tiny objects in those displays, but since Liz G asked I thought some tiny golden coins would be a good idea. You can see what I said just up there!
