The red-headed writer (aka la Raconteuse) was grinning to herself – my word, this place is buzzing, really buzzing, as she entered the Six-Sentence-Café-and-Bistro, – there are so many people I know, this is going to be fabulous.
But earlier she’d had such a dithering afternoon, almost a calamity in fact; it started with what she would wear at the Café-and-Bistro later.
She’d opened her wardrobe, and messy it was, as she threw out various things, but what to choose, not that there was much choice, and of course, she didn’t often vary her colours of clothes, her motto being: just black and black, but this was a proper event, so nothing ventured nothing gained, she will wear a flowy and pretty dress, long too.
So that was sorted, as she went to her laptop, opening it up to look at her poetry section, rather vast now, she would have to memorize a couple of those, and that could be a problem.
She wrote three of her most recent poems which she hadn’t yet released, and copied them on some small cards, then she looked to decide which would be best, then the second one for reserve, and finally the last one if required, although she felt it was rather unlikely, still all she needed to do was… practice, practice, practice, and out loud.
La Raconteuse was meeting and greeting, smiling and waving, but the sad news was this, as she held this up – I’ve lost my voice completely, more than hoarse!

Sunday’s Six Sentence Story Word Prompt: WORD
More #SixSentenceStories

Oh my… I loved the story. You did such a good job slipping in the “required ingredients” and crafting the tale around them.
Also, Donna Summers was a legend. Hot stuff still plays at the gym sometimes.

Flowy and pretty is perfect for a poetry slam. I’ve found a couple shots of Southern Comfort, neat, can work wonders in bringing out a slightly hoarse, sultry voice. You go, Grrrrrrrl! 🐦⬛☀️🖤

Ah yes, some Southern Comfort could be good… mm. Just hope that long dress doesn’t trip her up!

Just tuck a li’l bit of hem in the waist-band. The better to show off that sparkly ankle bracelet and bare foot.

I forgot about memorizing the poems, but it sounds like the red-headed writer is ready for the poetry slam.

We think it will be next time for that red-headed writer. Writing is very different then talking out loud she has realized.

With inspiration from the late Donna Summer, la Raconteuse will regain her voice!

We do hope that the red-headed writer will be talking and a lot, and soon!

And if what Liz proposed doesn’t work… or even better, on top of that! … let me prepare a rakomelo for you… guaranteed to get you going, dear Raconteuse 😉
Loving the outfit.

Ooh, she would love some rakomelo. Yum and yum, and yes… that will be very much better! Just a lovely colour and those excellent herbs and honey.

Wow I have not heard that Donna Summer song in a long time. I used to listen to it when I was young. It is a beautiful song. Thank you for reminding me. And la Raconteuse is certainly a very interesting person. Great story!

You may not sound fabulous but you look fabulous, Chris! You, Liz and Nick should head over to the bar and allow the BarTender to serve up something that will “cure” all three of you 😁

I love this Chris – you pack so much into six sentences! You look amazing by the way – I suggest some honey and lemon with a drop of whiskey and splash of warm water- hope your voice returns very soon 🙌❤️

What a fun* Six
Plus there is, for me, a separate enjoyment in this event.
(lol besides the ‘Well, why not have it next week?’ Thank you, Chris for that challenge… there is an energy to this year’s Slam that, imo, would have been absent if this had been done otherwise)
For me, there is a camaraderie among certain of us. While I enjoy seeing others new friends and old, here, there’s that thing that good friends do at busy social occasions… a glance through a sea of faces, a momentary sharing of eye contact, in this case, connecting with fellow Proprietors that has a special sense of belonging.
ya know?
*fun in all the ways that we witness in the Café: imagery you can feel, sounds you recognize immediately** just being in the middle (or perhaps stepping quietly into the shadows) of a gathering of talented friends and let the evening unfold
**as to the hoarse voice? among my personal favorite singers: Tom Waits, Leon Redbone and Janis Joplin

Oh yes, that was a fun time, really good, and worth it… a lot. Don’t we all agree!
And yes, let’s do this again.
Same time next year?
Seems sensible… sensible? Well, we know what we mean…
p.s. if only I could sing (in anyway at all).
