Those two squirrels

Squirrel time!

As the two of them
pranced and jumped.
What to do today?

We scoot down
from that great palm tree,
fun for us!

Ooh, so look at this.
It’s a bicycle, isn’t it,
can we jump on this?

Well, I’ve got the saddle,
and you’ve got the basket,
but no-one to pedal.

Oh, I think we need to go,
and quickly,
well, we’re just naughty squirrels,
aren’t we!

  10. This is such a charming and playful poem, Chris! I love how you captured the mischievous energy of the two squirrels—hopping onto the saddle and basket without a care in the world fits that ‘Follow That Dream’ sign so perfectly! 🐿️🚲✨

  28. Love it! I have a couple of squirrels that run along my back fence and play in my yard. Fresno has quite a few of them. But at my sister’s house, more towards the edge of town, they have raccoons that come and eat their cat food on the back porch! 😮

      • I think they can be, but my sister’s cats don’t seem to mind them that much. She recently sent me a video from her neighbor’s “catio” camera and a raccoon was trying to take one of those automatic cat feeders out of the catio! The video stops right when it gets the feeder to the catio door. Her neighbor said that the raccoon got it to the back fence but then it was either too heavy or it couldn’t figure out how to get it over the fence! 😮

  32. This put a smile on my face this morning. I love the image of one squirrel on the saddle and the other in the basket, trying to figure out how to get that bicycle moving. There is something so wonderful about watching how effortlessly squirrels move and jump, completely free of the stiffness that some of us feel when we get out of bed. That sign saying Follow that dream is a lovely touch too. It is a great reminder to keep moving forward, even if we are just taking small, playful steps like those two. Thank you for sharing this cheerful little story.
