Paris Photographer – Louis Paulin
Joan had told everyone to stop walking, as they looked around in the first magnificent chamber, while Francis consulted his detailed map, but the two gargoyles began to take some interesting snapshots on their smartphones.
Meanwhile, the red-headed woman had recovered her composure, “no more quivering,” she muttered to herself, “and no quitting either,” she continued, “even though this huge underground catacombs place is more than weird and still pretty scary,” as she started to take more notice around the walls.
“There are so many bones down here,” said Scatty, “and all those skulls often don’t match, so many of them don’t belong together,” – “but that seems so sad,” said the red-headed woman, as The Old One joined them.
“I’m afraid we will have to pass all those wretched monarchs,’ said Francis, “there’s no other way,” – “oh well, not to worry” grinned Scatty, “I’m always happy to say this – off with their heads,” as she giggled a lot.
“Quite right too,” agree Joan, “no cakes for her or anyone else any more, you know who I mean, that Queen, Marie-Antoinette,” – “indeed no,” chipped in one of the gargoyles, “actually I believe that Queen has to continue to make quilting things, she must make them every day, and then she must undo them again,” – “well, that’s bizarre but there it is, how did you know about that?” – “no idea, but I do.”
So several of them said about that Revolution: Vive la France! – as Scatty and Joan linked arms and grinned.

Ah well, those catacombs can go for miles and miles. What will they find next time, we wonder? 😉

Something unusual?

The absorbing adventure continues, Chris! Better to be red-headed than dead-headed, I suppose.

Funny enough, I was thinking about dead roses in my garden! Odd, perhaps? 🥀😂
Thanks, Dave.

There is something fascinating about catacombs. (In a morbid kind of way.)

Some strange places down there for sure!

I wouldn’t go down there alone, that’s for sure!

Haha, that should be an excellent word. Still it’s the right season, and spooky times are pretty much here!

That’s a good story. The catacombs in Paris store skeletons from 6 millions people.

Such a huge number wasn’t it. So glad that you went there though!

Yes the stories of the dead, like Clive Barker’s Books of Blood. Well maybe that was not what you were thinking but that popped up in my head.

Great episode Chris – don’t you just love the word ‘catacombs‘ or am I just weird 😄

Bones are just calcified architecture. No worries! (grinning at such great fun)

Well, if you put it like that, everything seems very much better! 😊

I chuckled at the irony, Chris – there’s the red-headed woman chiding herself over quivering because the Catacombs are dark and scary yet, she’s down there with two gargoyles, lol. A fun episode!

So glad that you enjoyed that. More fun will occur next time (I imagine) 😊

That poor Queen, that indeed is a weird thing to know. And why don’t the skulls match the bodies? It is a sad thing though I doubt I could notice. 😂. And ‘off with their heads’ made me giggle too, maybe something is wrong with me but I instantly thought about the poor Queen and Alice in wonderland too.

I have to say that I have used real people in the past and I have also made things up. Well, that would be me and/or that red-headed woman (fortunately neither have lost they heads… giggling). So on to the next chapter next week – spooky times continue for a bit (well, it’s October, isn’t it). 👻🦇

Catacombs are odd and spooky, but worth a tour at least once.
