The two boys had been walking about the town. It was Saturday and it was early May. They moseyed down to the river, where there are lots of small shops and cafes in this part.
‘It seems rather busy here, is there something going on?’

They walked a little further.
‘Look, there’s something strange on one of those tables outside.’
‘What do you think that is?’
‘Hmm, I’m not sure.’

They were getting closer now.
‘Looks like a costume, I wonder who it’s for.’
‘It looks familiar.’
‘Oh, I know what it is, that’s a Spiderman costume.’
‘But who’s supposed to wear it?’

Then a moment later…
‘Look, someone has just appeared from that bar.’
‘Gosh, he’s not wearing much is he?’
The two of them glanced at each other, and then started giggling.

Meanwhile, the guy quickly put his costume on, as he muttered. ‘I just needed a wee, and I’m a bit late too.’ He pointed, ‘you see that large stadium?’
The two boys nodded, ‘we know it.’

The Spiderman stood up properly. ‘It’s not far, and you can come in as guests with me. Maybe I can find something for both of you to wear. You see I’m a cosplayer, and you’ll both enjoy that, I’m sure.’

So the two boys were dressed in various items, and they looked pretty good. They wandered around in this busy and happy place, and what did they see?’

Poisson d’Avril

‘So what shall we do today?’
‘Well, it’s the first of April, and we know about April Fool’s Day, don’t we?’
‘Yep, but that’s in the UK, and I’m sure things are different here, don’t you think?’
‘Probably, almost everything is, isn’t it.’

The two boys had been walking about a bit, since their Great Aunt Margot had been in various little shops, although she’d kept her eye on them, since this is where she lives in France, and the two boys had been sent to stay there for their half-term.

‘For you,’ said Great Aunt Margot, as she appeared from behind them. She had gently stuck something on them. ‘Now, look to see what’s on your backs!’ as she grinned.

And so they did, and grinned too.

She had her big basket which had many things, including lots of paper fishes. ‘That will keep you busy for a bit, but meanwhile I will be busy too. You can go all around the square with the big church with the steeple, you will recognise the belfry too. But mind, don’t go too close to that rickety old house. Mais oui?’

So the two boys did what they were asked.
‘Fun, isn’t it,’ as they both chuckled.

The square was great, and the two boys had lots of laughs with those paper fishes. They also looked at the belfry and that old broken house.

And what did the two boys see on that top window by the old broken house?

In the forest

‘Come on, we can have a race between ourselves, it will be fun.’
‘Definitely, especially since our mountain bikes are best in the woods and the hilly bits.’

The two boys looked back to see the end of their village.
‘Now we are in the proper country – rolling hills and streams.’
‘It’s not too far, but far enough.’
‘Shall we go?’

They looked to each other and grinned.
‘Now it’s time to race.’
‘On your marks, set and… go!’

They went up and down and around, over a couple of streams – they were rather wet and muddy, but who minded? They were biking fast as they were riding neck and neck. Then they came to a huge oak tree in the middle of the track – one went left, the other went right… both were still neck and neck, even though the trees and bushes were getting denser and higher.

They were almost at the top of the largest hill, but suddenly a little glade opened up. The two boys stopped dead.
They mouths fell open.

And what did they see? Can you guess?
I think they will whisper…

‘We saw a couple of unicorns who darted out, and then disappeared.’
‘Did we see them, or not.’
‘Maybe it was just a double take?’

A Posh Neighbourhood

‘Hey, look at this place, it’s very posh.’
‘I don’t think we have been here, have we?’
‘Definitely not.’
‘Still we can mosey around, since it’s the holidays.’

The two boys walked around one of the cul-de-sacs.

‘Oh, look at this. It’s a lovely large chameleon right next to the wall.’
‘It’s not real.’
‘No, but it’s very cute.’
‘That wall is pretty tall, and it goes all around the house and the garden I suppose.’
‘I bet it’s really nice.’
‘Do you think we would be able to go inside?’
‘Shall we find out?’

The two boys knocked on the door and rang the bell.
And waited.

‘No answer.’
‘Try again.’
‘Okay. ‘

‘No reply.’
‘Maybe we can climb up, and over?’
‘Shall we try?’
‘Hmm, don’t think so – bound to be court.’
‘Yip, you’re right.’

They stared for a bit.
‘Did we try the handle on the door?’
They tried, both of them; but no luck.
However, they saw something.

And if you look very closely, beneath the handle, you can see a tiny unicorn.🦄
