Unknown waters lie ahead, our future is opaque, obscure, still uncharted
No more mapped out milestones, no glittering goals to accomplish
Certainty has ceased, while we clutch at withered straws
Ever searching for proper patterns to pursue, the
Return to routine, to the mindful mundane
That frees us, and comforts us
And will sustain our souls
If only in illusion.
No chance of
That hope
Yet

This is so apt on Chris. A picture of our world today, drowning in uncertainty. Thanks for being the first one this week.

A wave of that emotion just hit me in the face as soon as I saw the photo. I’m looking forward to see what else comes out. Thanks for the ongoing challenge, Sadje!

What a great accrostic. I love the way you whittle it away to that final ‘yet’.

Nice typography, the aesthetics of this poem aren’t just visually-pleasing, they also do well to reflect the message that it’s conveying. What a great testament to creative formatting in poetry!

Wonderful acrostic, looks also like a reverse Snowball… But a could be with just words decreasing or increasing by letter. I think the word reduction should also count 🙂
Strange times ahead that is for certain.

You’re right, Jules, it’s the number of words which decreases by one on each line. I tried to do a decreasing syllable count, but that defeated me!

Very nice acrostic. I take heart in the small glimmer of hope.

Love the form you used! It certainly lends itself to that glimmer of hope that is often times hidden at the bottom of uncertainty.

Thanks, Matthew, I was quite pleased with that line. Incidentally, Peter Carey’s ‘A Long Way from Home’ has just this minute been delivered. I’m looking forward to reading it soon.

you describe well the ‘uncertainty’ so many are struggling with as distractions are minimised, left with just ourselves. ..
