Reflecting
on the year that has passed
on the year before that
on how our lives have changed.
Remembering
the loved ones taken
without goodbyes, without a hug
or a gentle brush of a cheek.
Thinking
of those we couldn’t comfort
grieving behind closed doors
spending a first Christmas alone.
Lighting
a solitary candle
watching it flicker
pushing away the darkness.
Reminiscing
about the happy times
the laughter and the smiles
knowing they will return.
Wiping away
the tears that stain the page
the flame sputters, then strengthens
and burns again anew.

Your beautiful piece struck a chord for me particularly as I was unable to see my mother in the days leading up to her passing and never got to say goodbye.

I shall be looking for postcards next week, when we take a little jaunt up the coast!

I’ve started (dating so I can read it – because sometimes the postmark isn’t readable) … sending one to myself too!
I used to buy them and forget the when. I always take along my own PC stamps too (locally in the states anyway – I think I’ve only had to buy foreign stamps occasionally.) Mostly I’ve traveled in the states.
Enjoy your jaunt!

I tried to send you an email via your contact info, but it said I ‘timed out’ – I’ll try again once I am home.

What a good idea to post to yourself and I have a load of local stamps in my purse. How long they’d take to arrive would be interesting in itself here!
