A movie star in the making
but at the moment he’s treading the boards
he pretends he’s shy
but he’s nothing like it
he could even be a drama queen.
Well, maybe not
strike that one out.
He’s a beautiful man
so clean and fresh and tidy
but there’s one problem
he talks so very high
such a pity.
Actually, he could be a man in drag
and why not?

For the visually challenged reader, this image shows a man holding a white face mask which is hiding half of his face. Only his light brown eyes and forehead are visible.
Written in response to Sadje‘s What Do You See #234 photo prompt

Gilbert Gottfried has been quite successful….!

I must think of my time when I was doing acts on the stage, though there are a lot of differences there between, especially being beautiful!! But, joking aside, it reminds me of one of my articles: https://lampmagician.com/2022/10/15/the-mystery-of-gender/
included a movie, The Danish Girl.
Anyhow, it is a remarkable versification, my dear Chris.🤙🥰

Oh, that was so interesting. Funny what you did, but also what you expressed about you article. The gender is far more difficult – and often very sad, but The Danish Girl movie looks excellent though. I’ll read the rest later.
Thanks so much, Aladin 💛🌻😊

The mask gives the illusion of shyness, but the eyes reveal his vanity.
Nice one Chris.

I’m reminded of reading about silent movie stars who didn’t make the transition to talkies because their voices were too high (men) or grated on the ear (women). What strikes me most about the prompt photo is that the model bites his fingernails.

Oh yes, the poor silent actors, I wish I could remember some of these names. I’m very impressed that you saw the little finger, I didn’t see that until just now. Well done, Liz!

Great poem, Chris. 🙂 And I have to agree with Darnell – someone with eyes that intense can’t be accurately described as shy. But being seen as humble is advantageous…

So many things that we can think about in that photo. What fun!

A gorgeous poem, Chris. The picture reminds me of Phantom of the Opera.

Thanks, Robbie. I haven’t thought about Phantom of the Opera for ages, even though we saw it in Artscape some time ago.

Ah, but aren’t most people waiting in the wings, under the pretense of humility, desperate for their chance in the limelight? Present company excepted of course!
Great poem, Chris.

I really like how you’ve written from this prompt, Chris. I take from your poem, which flows beautifully, that whoever and whatever he is, it’s fine. The best view of the world. (Except if he’s an axe murderer, of course! 😄)

Too many are not very tolerant at all. We just had a boo-far with a program (in the city) that had to be canceled (from out of state threats actually) regarding a Drag Queen wanting to do story time at the local library.
When will people learn that they don’t have to participate, but allow others that will enjoy such?

Gosh, that’s dreadful. Like you said, just stay away if you’re not happy to go somewhere. And everyone else will have a good time.

Too many folks on the wrong edge of what they think is right and has to be shoved down eveybody else’s throats.
Hard to be different and not be sqweamish about whatt others think – and it shouldn’t be that way.

Love this! It’s got a playful vibe but makes you think too. That mix of drama and mystery in the poem matches perfectly with the picture. Really cool how it leaves you guessing.

I love these masks and how they reveal the true emotion in the eyes. I think we all wear our own invisible versions at times…
