Barbeque? Well, not usually called it here. We prefer the word ‘braai’.
But it’s just a way to say, ‘howzit’.
It’s time to open some beer… naturally, and to make sure all the meat is arranged around the grill, since everyone has something different.
The women have brought salads and stuff. They’re already ‘skinnering’ (gossiping), and very happy with that. Now it’s the perfect time for ‘sundowners’ for the girls… some lovely white wine – and chilled.
Route 66? Almost. This is Route 62!

R62 is fab at the moment since it’s summer here. It’s very warm and almost no clouds in the sky… blissful, especially in an aircon in a good car or a bakkie! Road trip we go…

I never really appreciated what a barbecue was until we relocated to Johannesburg. We always call it a braai.

Wow! The South African version of Route 66😀 As usual, I learned a lot of new vocabulary words in this one. We’ve always said “barbecue”, often written as “BBQ” but lately I’ve been hearing it called “grilling” a lot too. Ah well, “a rose by any other name…”😂

Chris, thanks for the slang tips for visiting your area. I love the idea of everyplace having its own version of Rte 66/62. I remember a movie I saw called Highway 61, that travels n-s through Canada and maybe continues down into the U.S.

If I had a bucket list traveling Rt 66 or Rt 62 could be on it.
I’ll eat BBQ, but we don’t often grill out. Our disused grill finally went bye-bye!

Ah shame about your outside grill. Ours also almost disintegrated several years ago, but we have an inside braai by the wall in the house.
