It was the first of March and a rather chilly day, but I decided to have a little walk in the fresh air. It had been wet and muddy underfoot so I put my wellies on. I trudged across a few roads before I came to the park and the smallish river.
I stopped in the middle of the bridge, and peered across and down to the river. Not much to see though. No fishes unless they were at the bottom, but that was probably true. No birds around either, as I turned to look and the other side of the bridge. This was the upside of the river, the right place to play Pooh Sticks, as I grinned to myself, although it’s not much fun to play on one’s own.
It was time to head back. And time to think about some hot coffee and a couple of Hobnobs!

Now you know I have to ask what Pooh Sticks is!

Pooh Sticks is a game which was originally created from a book by A.A. Milne. It was all about Pooh and all his friends. You never read those two charming books – Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner? Gosh, shame!

Now I need to know what that game is all about! I’m hoping it’s related to Winnie the Pooh, and not too strenuous, haha!

Well done for looking up Pooh Sticks! I had assumed Hobnobs were all around the world! It’s from the UK, but also in South Africa, and very nice it is!

That sounds like a quiet day. Here in north Texas, at our house, we had a noisy day, 80 degrees, lots of birds making noise, a screaming or laughing baby and a barking dog.

Wow! I’m always learning new words from you! I had never heard of Pooh Sticks before but when you said it was on a bridge I remembered there is a drawing from Winnie the Pooh where they seem to be looking over the side of a bridge and holding sticks. 🤔 Or am I imagining that? I’ll have to look it up. Thanks for the links to the Poh Sticks and Hobnobs. 😊 Such fun!

Aha, that drawing you mentioned, you were right about that. It was a bridge and Pooh bear and various other animals – Piglet, Roo and Rabbit – were looking down to the river. I’m just smiling about that since I still have the two books about Winnie-the-Pooh and The House of Pooh Corner, although they’re almost falling apart.

Pooh sticks, lovely. Who doesn’t enjoy it. But there are fishes in that river. And not just the minnows we used to catch in jam-jars but trout too. Of course, we know the trout have ‘escaped’ from a nearby fishery (and good luck to them to stay free, I say)

Ah yes, those carefree days when we were young. We are older now, but those ‘fishies’ are still roaming free, or at least we would like to hope so.
