But is it art?
What do you mean?
Well, it’s not really real.
Sorry?
It has been generated with software.
It’s not surreal, no. It’s very realistic.
Now that I understand. I could munch some fruit in there.
That bit of banana is beautiful, isn’t it?
And that mug of coffee looks hot.
That old photo looks interesting too.
I like the way that artist is working outside.
It’s called en plein air
Ooh, impressive.
You know there is a market for buying crypto-art?
You don’t say?
Yep, it’s called Non Fungible Tokens.
Well, all I can say is… blimey!

There’s a lot going on in that photo, and in your poem, Chris! An artful poem. 🙂

Intriguing, though I think this picture looks quite ordinary, taken with a regular camera! 🤔😁
A nice talk!! 😉☺️

Your poem feels like it reflects the layers on layers of the photo.

It is a brave new world, so let’s squeeze the juice out of it, pick through the seeds and pith, and decide what we want to keep, what to dump…😉

Are Non Fungible Tokens still a “thing”? I haven’t heard anything about them in the past few years.

I heard something on the radio this week, but I didn’t listen properly. So I had a little look on Google. It’s still around but not for me, but it was useful to add something on my post here!

What’s real and what isn’t? It’s gotten to the point where it’s almost impossible to tell …. and I don’t think that’s a good thing. I enjoyed the dialogue in your story, Chris. Nicely done.

It sure is a problem isn’t it, but what can we do? Still, I am glad that you enjoyed what I wrote, thanks Nancy.

Dear Chris,
Everyone has different ideas about what art is, don’t they? Enjoyable poem giving the reader pause.

Hmm… crypto art?? I’m not sure but I thought I read that crypto funds were in trouble.
I don’t have to worry about that as I don’t have a single crypto coin! 🪙

Well quite. Let’s not think about anything about crypto ‘thingies’! 😆

super fun with the crypto art and humor – and great flow to the story you painted
and then the serious tone seeps out a bit – as the digital age is truly upon us with AI and wondering what’s real….

Yep, it was a fun angle with that photo, but it’s also the real problem about all that stuff about AI – as you said. Things were so much easier before… whenever that was!

oh and did some painting with the grankids this last weekend – but it started out to be chromatography coffee filter flowers – where black children’s markers are used in the middle of coffee filters and then dipped in water -t he colors or pigments in the marker move through the coffee filter – and pipe cleaners can be used for the stem and they can be formed into flowers. Well! I only had water-proof markers, which do not work for this activity (and I would have said I onbly had Sharpie markers for my water-proof ones – but I do not use Sharpie brand like we used to as it is no longer a lasting quality marker – ugh) – anyhow, to still make flowers, we used watercolor paints and just painted on the coffee filters – and they turned out just fine – so! a tiny bit of painting was done at the priorhouse – ha

crypto art. I’d laugh if it wasn’t within the realm of possibility. But much is these days.

Oh yes, crypto art is really real. I have even met a couple of people here who have done it. But no money… yet!

This was great, every detail reflected. And in the end, real or not, it’s always only about the money. I foresee a ‘human-only market’ but it will probably take a while.

[…] Lastly, I went with a painting story because Chris Hall, a regular contributor to Friday Fictioneers, often creates fun stories with a painting theme, as in Seascape and last week’s Still Life, Is It? […]
