Memories
Ah yes, my first flat,
well, it was almost it.
A tiny bedsit,
what a find!
It was old even then,
a little table,
a chair, and behind
that tatty bed.
Eish! I would say
now.
Just a couple of things,
some books and records,
but my pride of place…
that little black and white TV.
Ah, memories…
I’ll just take
that useful
suitcase.

This image shows a scene inside a room. There is an old-fashioned TV sitting on a small table. There is a big white kettle on the TV. There is a yellow bag in front of the TV. There is a wooden chair on the right of the TV. On the back wall, there are windows with metal grills over them.
Written in response to Sadje‘s What Do You See #354 photo prompt.

I had the same memory when I saw the image lol. Well done, Chris

I love this. My first flat was so small that the bed was a pull-down from what looked like closet doors, and yet I remember it with illogical affection. 😂

It is, and it’s also fun wondering how ever did I prepare a meal with only one burner!

Oops, a flat must be wrong. Should I sing about a sharp? But maybe not. Aha, it’s an apartment (very posh… and large).

My first apartment was on the third floor above the Ben Franklin store. Rent was $75. a month.

In hindsight, it was a very nice apartment. I lived in some real dumps after that.

how could that have been? I remember my first apt… a bed and piles of books… no tv (but a record player)
who the heck was I? lol

Love your poetry, it reminds me of a flat I saw when I first looked for a home and it was tiny.

This is too funny, but remember I’m in the US 😂 When I saw the title, my immediate thought was “flat tire” and when I saw the picture I was thinking “Where’s the car?”🚗

Lol yes, like when I didn’t know that a jumper in the Agatha Christie audiobooks was a sweater and not a sleeveless dress that you wear over a blouse or T-shirt. 😂😂I learned that one from a crochet blog I follow. Language is so fascinating to me! (Hey, there’s blog material in that!🤔)

You took me back to my first bedsit in London when I was 18. It was above an underground line and shook every time a train passed beneath!

This is so tender. The way you capture that pride in the little black and white TV those small moments when we own so little but feel so much. And that ending with the suitcase. Beautiful. Thank you for this. 💙
Much love,
