there are many things
it can be very pleasant
but not my last name
please don’t mention ‘Hall’
and now don’t get my into
so many issues
it’s just a bit odd
so let me be calm, and breathe
incense, lingering
that’s much better
~~~
PS – my last name, Hall, sounds very similar to the word ‘hol’ in Afrikaans, and it’s rather rude.
Let’s just say it’s called ‘bottom’.
For the visually challenged reader, this is an image of a signboard. On the sign it says; I love you because…. The letters are lit in red colour.
Haha! A uncalled for coincidence but you’re a beautiful lady with a beautiful name my friend. Thanks for joining in with this lovely poem.
There were so many merciless taunts which were generated from my last name in middle and high school. It was so frustrating, We truly don’t get to choose.
Oh, that was so mean! But like you said, there is nothing that you can do about that at that time.
“bottom” could also mean deep, profound, and essential!
So let’s be calm and breathe
incense, lingering. 🤗💖
Indeed. I should think thoughts which are much nobler and higher – breathe, breathe and breathe again… now that’s better. ☺️🤗
Thanks so much, Aladin!🌹🌹🌹
At least one bully from my childhood used my last name against me (because it sounds similar to McDonald).
Oh that’s not good. Bad to be a kid sometimes.
I won’t want to associate with McDonald (those burgers). Also let’s not mention that ‘D’ word now either.
I feel your pain, Chris… but it could be worse.
My first name as Niko, sounds like in Egyptian with a word meaning I fck.
Imagine my girlfriend outside of a mosque calling me: Niko, Niko.
Local men were looking at her with renewed interest, local women wanted to hunt her down 🤣
My goodness, I had no idea about that. It can be tricky (at best) to use name/words all around the world and find things are very different.
‘oh dear’ etc 😉
Omg Chris. I want to laugh but I’m so worried about what’s going on in South Africa. I really hope you’re safe.
Hey, don’t worry about SA at the moment -continued to laugh just now. Pockets are bad, and worse, but isn’t it mostly the same all over the world?
Chris, an very amusing post! 💕❤️💕
I thought it was bad enough to have a surname that is endlessly mispronounced or misspelled! At least it is better than “Butts,” a name from old English meaning “a target for archery practice” or “a tree stump.” 🤣
Nice to see you, Cheryl.☺️
Oh! That’s so interesting! I was wondering what was wrong with the rather normal last name Hall. Now I see. As Jude said, stay safe. I’m so sorry that the US is making the world more dangerous for everyone.
Oh, but it’s not a problem really for me, and not either in South Africa. It’s pretty okay at the moment. I have just a funny name, since me and my hubby moved from UK to SA about 15 years ago. I had no problem in the UK, I guess I should have changed my name when I got married, but I kept by maiden name because I was the last ‘Hall’.
I kept my maiden name too. It’s my name, after all. 🙂
Negative associations with certain names are no fun. 😦 Sorry about this happening with your last name, Chris.
Just one of those things. So just laugh… no probs.😉
Lol. Last names can lead to a lot of bullying and embarrassment.
So it’s lucky I’m not bothered by it. I am much to old to worry about that now!☺️
I thought “Hall” was about as neutral last name as you can get. Not so in South Africa apparently!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Well, it’s not so much the name, but rather the way it’s said here. Still no one worries about the name ‘Halls Extra Strong Mints’ and that’s all round the world, even in SA!
😮Who would have ever thought the name “Hall” could be construed as a vulgarity. Chiming in as a “language person” I have to say I think it’s fascinating. It’s so amazing how different sound combinations can mean different things all over the world. 🌎🌍
Exactly, and most odd as well. It’s great to be in so many places and different languages, even though sometimes things seem a little strange. Such us life! (and also WP).☺️🤣
